On October 14, 2019, Northwestern Michigan College’s Board of Trustees selected Dr. Nick Nissley to become NMC\'s 11th president, effective January 1, 2020.Northwestern Michigan College (NMC) was the first comprehensive community college chartered in the State of Michigan. Since its founding in 1951, NMC has provided quality, affordable access to higher education for learners of all ages and backgrounds. The College enrolls approximately students, offering associate degrees and professional certificates, bachelor\'s degrees through the Great Lakes Maritime Academy and Great Lakes Water Studies Institute. And, six partner universities grant bachelor\'s and master\'s degrees through NMC\'s University Center.NMC is located in Traverse City, the hub of the five-county Grand Traverse region. The area is historically known for its quality of life, four-season recreation opportunities and beautiful natural environment. NMC has become integrally woven into the educational, economic, social, and cultural fabric of the Grand Traverse region. NMC’s Mission is to provide lifelong learning opportunities to our communities through: • Associate degree, certificate, and transfer education • Career/occupational education and workforce development• Bachelor degrees in select programs • Cultural and personal enrichment • Baccalaureate and graduate program facilitation • Regional economic developmentMost programming occurs on the Main Campus, which is home to: the Dennos Museum Center, the region’s leading cultural and performing arts facility, with its signature Inuit Art of the Canadian Arctic collection; as well as WNMC-FM, a community-supported radio station which broadcasts at 90.7 FM. ABOUT NICK NISSLEY
Nick earned his doctorate of education degree in Human Resource Development from the George Washington University’s Graduate School of Education and Human Development, in Washington, D.C. Dr. Nissley\'s strengths are centered on proven capabilities in educational leadership, spanning from k12, to community college and university settings, to the social profit and corporate workplaces – across the US and Canada. Dr. Nissley has served as a professor in the department of Organization Learning & Development at the University of St. Thomas in Minneapolis, where he held the roles of Department Co-Chair, and Program Director for the Master’s Program in Human Resource Development. Dr. Nissley also held affiliations with the College of Business, Management Center, and Center for Nonprofit Management at the University of St. Thomas. In addition, Dr. Nissley has published widely in scholarly journals such as the British Journal of Management, Journal of Business Strategy, Organizational Studies, Human Resource Development Quarterly, and the International Journal of Training & Development. Dr. Nissley has served as Dean of the Business Division of Cincinnati State – one of the State of Ohio’s largest technical and community colleges. And, most recently, Dr. Nissley served as the Executive Director for the School for Creative and Performing Arts (Cincinnati Public Schools). Today, he is the President of Northwestern Michigan College.Dr. Nissley is a thought leader and an insightful strategist with the spirit of an entrepreneur. His work experiences have extended beyond academia, and have included executive roles in: mining, healthcare, and education institutions. An engaging speaker, Nick is frequently invited to speak on the topic of leadership/story/creativity.
