ABOUT NICKI TAYLOR
I am currently employed by Bio2pure Ltd. where I lead the process development of upstream microbial operations for the manufacture of water treatment and other bioremediation products. Previously employed by Protein Technologies and Fujifilm Diosynth Biotechnologies, I focussed on the fermentation of microbial organisms producing recombinant proteins, from 250ml to 100L scale. Prior to this, I completed my EngD at Newcastle University, where I was sponsored by Demuris Ltd. The main aim of my doctorate project was to isolate and identify novel antimicrobial compounds from actinomycetes, using a number of dereplication and chromatography techniques, as well as investigating methods to induce and increase antimicrobial production from these bacteria.I graduated from Newcastle University with degrees in Industrial and Commercial Biotechnology at Masters level, and Applied Biology at undergraduate level. I am extremely passionate about microbiology and biotechnology, in particular the use of microbes to aid modern life. As the EngD programme provided MBA level business training, I have also piqued an interest in the more commercial side of industry, and would consider moving into a role exploring this in the future.
