My earlier work: I spent 15 years doing mental health policy advocacy, training, and system change work on the local, state (Massachusetts) and national levels and specialized in recovery approaches and trauma informed care. I advocated for the need to involve people with lived experience of extreme emotional distress to be central players on all levels of mental health services, for only in this way will a system of supports and services be devised that help and don\'t harm. Along the way of my healing journey I have come to see \"mental illness\" and all it\'s deconstructions/labels as destructive concepts that fail to recognize the truth of extreme distress.
