ABOUT NICK WATSON

Now on my third career as Founder Director of Trusted Technology Network (TTN) and Director of Othrys. TTN provides independent, qualitative support on tech IP for companies and investors, harnessing a unique network of practitioners and subject matter experts drawn from global IP offices. We have particular expertise in Artificial Intelligence and software; optimising IP strategies for investment rounds; and advising on IP aspects of tech deals (VC/PE investments, M&A, JVs) to create value for investors.Othrys is a defence, intelligence and security consultancy offering Counter-Ransomware; Integrated Intelligence; and capability-building for companies and governments. We are backed by an Association of some 250 associates, most former-government, who provide hard-to-find areas of expertise and experience. In addition to TTN and Othrys, I chair Ardingly College International, and sit on the Council of the University of Sussex, including its Audit and Risk Committee and the board of the Brighton and Sussex Medical School. These businesses build on the three themes that run through my career: internationalism, advisory and networks. Over 25 years, initially as a diplomat and then as a partner at Hakluyt, an insight-based advisory firm, I spent five years living and working in Japan and 12 in the Middle East, including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Jordan and another three years developing Hakluyt’s Middle East business. During that period I supported politicians, officials and C-suite executives in taking their most important decisions, ranging from complex, multi-faceted policy decisions relating to the UK’s relationship with strategic partners, to helping chief executives understand the ramifications of their acquisition or market entry strategy, or how to navigate a complicated relationship with a joint venture partner.Underpinning these is the development, optimisation, institutionalisation and leveraging of professional networks, to forge new connections, purvey influence and obtain valuable insight and expertise to underpin decision-making.
