Responsible for managing and maintaining various broadcast technical equipment such as cellar bonding, satellite, IP and UGC fed from various global locations. Utilising equipment from Aviwest, Dejero and LiveU for live outside broadcast, as well as OBED (Outside Broadcast Encoder Decoder) for major events. Involved in providing immediate solutions to evolving problems over the phone, by email or face-to-face. This includes giving support and technical knowledge to teams out in the field, sometimes in stressful and urgent situations. Part of the planning, technical checks and quality control of guests, correspondents and presenters whilst not in the studio. Was involved in the development of creating a grab bag of battery, lights and microphone to be used on mobile applications for iPhone. This innovative solution has helped many get to air within minutes of arriving at a story, namely during the Westminster Bridge attack in 2017 when our correspondent was able to get to air literally as they arrived on scene. Have worked on location providing technical support on large scale OBs and running and supporting our autocue operation. Over the years have been part of the successful broadcast of major world events including UK Political Party Conferences, various U.K and American Elections, Brexit and the continuous Covid19 Pandemic coverage.

ABOUT NICK SPARKES
With well over 10 years of experience within the television industry, I am currently a valued member of the News Operations Centre (NOC) for Sky News as one of their technical engineers.Having worked on some of the biggest news stories in recent times, I have shown I can work under pressure multitasking enquires whilst maintaining a high level of standard. From servicing and preparing cellar bonding equipment, to downlinks on satellite and running autocue and technical equipment on location I have gained many skills within the broadcasting field.My biggest achievement came in 2021 when I was part of the award for Technical Teams from the Royal Television Society, given for our contribution and innovation for our work during the start of the Covid19 pandemic. In my spare time I am a huge Formula 1 and motorsport fan, and have been very lucky to work on events in my early career associated with my passion.
