About Nick Slappy

I am a dynamic and courageous executive with significant experience in driving P&L performance in the energy sector through improved focus on operations and strong commitment to culture. With experience at 10 different regional operating companies and a degree in engineering, I have developed broad expertise in power generation and distribution supporting residential, commercial and industrial customers. I am a recognized leader and sought-after speaker in culture and have been helping companies understand the unintended impact of employee words and actions for years-long before this was a popular topic. I currently serve as Vice President of Transmission Operations, Maintenance, and Fleet where I provide strategic oversight of all transmission and distribution control centers, maintenance and support of transmission structures, lines, and substations, as well as rolling stock for Georgia Power and Southern Company Gas. In my previous role as Vice President, Safety and Resource Management I led the serious incident injury rate to record low levels by creating targeted programs, sharing best practices across the enterprise and building a culture that emphasizes openness and human performance. My operational skills received national recognition when I was awarded “Plant Manager of the Year” by Experience Power for my work at Plant Wansley and Plant Yates where I reduced budget, improved run profile and created greater reliability. In my current role, I have also enhanced the resource management function to deliver the best results in company history. I am skilled in labor relations and work effectively with contractors and the unions to ensure Southern Company has resources available when they are needed, even on short notice. I currently serve on the Edison Electric Institute Board of Advisors and am active in several community boards including my participation in the Economic and Development Board of Douglas County and L.E.A.D, a youth development organization in Atlanta. Previously I served on the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors in Cartersville, GA. As a former football player at the University of Tennessee, I enjoy my role as a community sports coach and mentor. I am interested in furthering my board work by serving on a board of a public or private company.
