ABOUT NICK PIKE

On leaving university, I followed in my mother’s footsteps as a teacher and after a couple of years’ of ‘national service’ in tough Yorkshire schools, retrained as an accountant and then as a financial planner. Today, I combine the communication skills developed in teaching, the accountant’s eye for detail and a natural flair for strategic big picture thinking to benefit my diverse range of clients including private individuals, Trusts and pension schemes. I know from my experience with existing clients that significant decisions about wealth often come with substantial change and/or stress (inheritance, retirement, etc) so I make sure the financial planning process doesn’t add to that stress. A large part of my role is to give clients (particularly those that have never previously had to handle significant wealth) the confidence to invest, having first helped them to understand that that is precisely what people with wealth have always done in order to protect the real value of their money from the ravages of inflation. My investment philosophy is conservative. The rule of thumb that I use is ‘would I be happy for my mum to put her money into this?’ Having previously completed the Great North Run, the Trans Peak Challenge (26 Miles by foot and bike) and the Highland Challenge (60 Miles by foot, bike and canoe across Scotland), I\'m trying to decide on the next challenge - I was hoping to run a Marathon before the age of 40, but I\'ve missed that by a few years already! Spare time for training is a bit of a problem with two young children.
