ABOUT NICK ONSLOW

I started by career as a Military Accountant in the Royal Army Pay Corps, “Accountancy with Action” is how it was sold to me and it turned out to be so true.My military career lasted 25 years and I served all over the world in countries such as Norway, Canada, Iraq, Afghanistan, Bosnia and Cyprus. My highlights were skiing across Greenland for 35 days, being part of the third largest parachute jump in history in America, two years in Muscat and being responsible for the finances of the UK deployment to Rwanda in 1994. My current profile picture is the one day a week I spent as a medic in a refugee camp.In the middle of that career I took a year and a half out which saw me take my Mountain Bike and travel around the world for a year followed by 6 months working as a personal trainer in Mayfair. We all have a back story and today it is far more common to do a range of jobs in your lifetime than just one. I am now a Chartered Financial Planner, I toyed with the idea of being an ethical, yes ethical hacker when I left the Army, but realised that any second career needs to be well thought out and planned well in advance. You need to build on the life events and skills you already have and see where you can most add value. I decided that the world of Financial Planning best suited my skills set as this combined my Accountancy and Human Resources skills and qualifications perfectly.Being a Chartered Financial Planner didn’t happen by accident it took 5 years of study and 23 exams which means regardless of where you get financial advice make sure your financial planner holds this status.I am very proud to say that I am Chartered and a Fellow of the Personal Finance Society and that I have contributed to articles to nearly all the national newspapers. I have won the odd award on my journey, but making it to the top three of Chartered Financial Planner of the Year three years running was the real highlight for me.We all have a story to tell and we all need a financial plan to ensure that our own individual story carries on for our whole lives, so make sure when you choose a financial planner your relationship with them is fun!
