Under my leadership, the Springfield Art Museum has- Increased annual attendance from 30K - 40K to over 60K (pre-pandemic)- Established a marketing budget and hired our first marketing professional in the our 90 year history- Established a Development Office, a first in our 90 year history, and increased donated and granted revenue for programs and operations from approx.$10K annually to over $150K - Launched a visionary 30-year Master Plan for our building and grounds- Secured over $8.9MM in public and private funds for improvements related to our Master Plan- Hosted numerous exhibitions of note including traveling exhibitions and those organized by the our Curatorial team. Exhibitions on loan from such institutions as National Portrait Gallery, DC; Smithsonian Anacostia Museum; American Federation of Arts; Reading Public Museum; and other institutions of note- Achieved accreditation with the American Alliance of Museums.

ABOUT NICK NELSON
I am an educator and administrator with over 20-years’ experience in the arts and over 15-years’ experience in the museum field. In my current role as Director of the Springfield Art Museum I oversee all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the Museum from public programs to personnel. During my tenure at the Springfield Art Museum, we have reached record attendance, have achieved a long-standing goal of accreditation with the American Alliance of Museums, and most recently launched a visionary 30-year Master Plan for the future of our building and grounds. I have a passion for strategic planning: I love “connecting the dots” whether it is connecting people with others or with exciting projects, discovering new opportunities, or identifying operational efficiencies. I am driven by a deeply held belief that the arts are for everyone and that the arts are a necessity when building resilient and thriving communities.
