ABOUT NICK HILL
I’m a hands on, automation and commissioning engineer with a strong background in industrial welding systems and robotic integration. I lead projects from design and system manufacture through to commissioning, FATs, and final handover, taking ownership of performance, reliability, and real world operation. My background is rooted in welding and fabrication, with practical experience across MIG/MAG, TIG, plasma, and submerged arc processes, specialising in automated overlay cladding. I work extensively with collaborative welding systems, supporting cobot demonstrations, customer trials, and production validation. This includes proving repeatability, refining weld paths, and aligning process parameters with automation and safety requirements.I’m comfortable fault finding electrical and control systems on site and resolving issues under pressure. I regularly deliver customer training for automated and robotic equipment, ensuring operators and maintenance teams can confidently run, adjust, and support systems once handed over. My experience allows me to bridge mechanical design, electrical systems, controls, and robotic processes, ensuring automation solutions are practical, maintainable, and fit for production use.I work internationally and operate effectively both independently and within multidisciplinary teams. Alongside my role, I’m self funding further education in controls and automation to strengthen my PLC, automation, and robotics capability and remain current within an evolving industry.I’m driven by delivering robust, production ready automation systems that not only look right, but perform reliably long after commissioning.
