ABOUT NICK CARSWELL
I am a dynamic and results-driven Operations Manager with extensive experience across defence, logistics, and complex operational delivery.I currently serve as a Grade 6 Civil Servant and Head of Support for the UK’s Boxer Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV) programme, one of the most significant land capability programmes in UK defence. In this role, I lead the development and implementation of a viable in-service support solution to ensure a growing fleet of over 623 Boxer vehicles remains safe, supportable, and operationally effective throughout its service life.My responsibilities span supply chain strategy, engineering support, retrofit activity, warranty management, technical documentation, and the development of long-term support arrangements. A key part of the role is building and maintaining strong collaborative relationships with international partners and allies, enabling the programme to share lessons learned, improve collective knowledge of the platform, and strengthen support solutions across the Boxer user community. The programme requires regular engagement with NATO partners and organisations including the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) and Organisation for Joint Armament Cooperation (OCCAR), providing valuable experience in navigating complex multinational programmes, governance structures, and defence partnerships.Previously, I served as Contract Manager for the Wildcat Integrated Support and Training Programme (WiST), working closely with the British Army and Royal Navy to ensure the availability and operational readiness of AW159 Wildcat helicopter fleets. In this role I worked with industry partners to deliver agile and innovative support solutions critical to frontline capability. Before joining the Ministry of Defence, I built a strong operational leadership foundation in the logistics sector. At Tesco’s Avonmouth Chilled Distribution Centre, I led large operational teams responsible for maintaining high service levels, operational efficiency, and product availability while fostering a safe and motivated work environment. My career began with Gregory Distribution, where I progressed from order picker to Night Operations Manager at the Cullompton depot. In this role I managed a sq. ft. warehouse operation and hub-and-spoke distribution network, consistently delivering strong OTIF performance. Across my career I have developed a reputation for building high-performing teams, delivering complex programmes, and strengthening partnerships across government, industry, and international allies.
