As curriculum coordinator I work with our director of studies to guide the school\'s curriculum development. An emphasis has been placed on collaboration among teachers and departments with a goal set to develop a horizontal and vertical articulation of skills and concepts that give our students the most complete educational experience possible. Throughout this process the teachers have worked to create clear scope and sequence documents and unit plans that more fully embed the IB Approaches to Teaching and Learning.Specifically within the math department, I work to strengthen the school\'s math curriculum into one that allows students to seamlessly move from the lower school through the IB Diploma Program in the upper school. Teachers collaborate to take the prerequisites of the Diploma Program\'s math courses and scaffold them backward to develop a scope and sequence of the skills expected to be delivered in earlier math courses. There is also a strong emphasis on ensuring that students develop an understanding of the underlying concepts of each math skill rather than a rote memorization of techniques; although the memorization of basic math facts is still an expectation.
