ABOUT NICK BEEDIE
Assessing the \'genius loci\' of place and creating, extending and adapting neighbourhoods or towns in a sustainable way have been key themes throughout Nick\'s professional experience in the design of built, movement and landscape environments. Along the way he has acquired many traditional and innovative masterplanning approaches through involvement with major projects including; Morecambe Design Guide and Codes; Ripon Barracks redevelopment; Coed Darcy Urban Village in Neath-Port Talbot and Leighton Linslade Urban Extension and Newhall New Neighbourhood (early career) in Harlow, Essex.Leading and collaborating with local communities and developers alike on residential schemes (typically 5 - 1500 homes) is something Nick thrives on. This requires a variety of different techniques to investigate townscape and character, site and surrounding landscape and community priorities. Nick has a keen ability to develop concepts, investigate options and then prescribe positive urban form within masterplans, guidance and design codes. His experiences facilitating public consultation has shown him that meeting with stakeholders early on is a great source of local knowledge and ideas that lead to a co-creation of development. Furthermore, getting and keeping people involved with design helps to build trust between the professionals and local groups, securing better outcomes for all.Alongside design-led and commercial masterplanning, Nick has also recently led on the production of design codes, design guidance and regeneration strategy for multiple canal-side sites, market towns, historic villages and new garden villages in the North of England and the Midlands. Alongside this he has experience of assisting with strategic site searches for potential new garden village settlements.
