The CPS is a novel, subcutaneously implantable & scalable business card-sized medical device scaffold, forming a natural environment in the body for the housing & long-term survival & function of therapeutic cells. As the CPS is fully integrated into the body’s vascular system, these therapeutic cells release necessary proteins, hormones or factors missing from the body to treat chronic diseases as an alternative to daily administration of drugs according to the body’s specific therapeutic needs when required – as per normal physiologic functioning. The CPS is ideally suited for allogeneic, autologous, stem cell & xenogeneic applications.Sernova\'s current FDA approved Ph. I/II Chicago-based trial goals for the CPS include clinically validating the ability to treat T-1 diabetes via donor islet transplantation to create endogenous production of insulin, somatostatin, and glucagon to control blood glucose without any external monitoring or insulin/hormonal sources. The primary long-term goal for the CPS is to provide a \"cure\" for T-1 diabetes by providing a safe, fully vascularized environment for sources of unlimited insulin-secreting cells. Pre-clinical work on the CPS is also underway to treat Hemophilia A with controlled endogenous production of Factor via Blood Origin Endothelial Derived Cells, as well as endogenous production of thyroid hormone for benign thyroid diseases. Pipeline applications include Parkinson\'s Disease.
