Serve as the Orion Crew Survival Systems (OCSS) Lead Engineer for suited launch and recovery operations:• Responsible for working with KSC Exploration Ground Systems (EGS) to support all suit-related day of launch crew insertion operations and training. This includes supporting ISVV-1A (nominal day of launch operations training at KSC, from suit up in the ACQ O&C suit room through transfer to the Mobile Launcher), and ISVV-01 (emergency egress training at KSC, from egress from the Mobile Launcher through transport to the medical triage facilities). • Support suited operations for Underway Recovery Trainings (URTs), which are joint NASA - DoD recovery training exercises in which nominal Artemis post-landing crew rescue and capsule recovery is practiced. • Determine operations and procedures required to immediately disassemble and clean OCSS Suits post-splashdown, while on the Navy LPD and prior to arriving back at port, to prevent corrosion and enable metallic components from Artemis II OCSS Suits to be reused on Artemis IV.Serve as the Hardware Engineer for OCSS Suit emergency water survival equipment and GSE suit cooling hardware:• Certify OCSS emergency egress and water survival hardware for spaceflight on Artemis II through environmental and structural testing, human-in-the-loop testing, and written analyses. Hardware is used in contingency, post-splashdown water egress scenarios. Hardware includes astronaut crew survival kits, life preserver units, and personal locating beacons. • Design, manufacture, and certify the design of OCSS suit cooling hardware, including portable ice-based cooling units, cooling water umbilicals, and suit-interfacing water connectors. • Determine the quantity and pre-placement of OCSS Suit cooling hardware needed to support Artemis mission operations, including during suit-up at KSC, transportation to the Mobile Launcher, crew insertion into the Orion Capsule, as well as splashdown and recovery operations.
