About Nicholas Amster
Graduate of St. John\'s School of Education (2015) and of Stony Brook University\'s Higher Education Administration Program (2019). Though those educational opportunities are not the end of my journey (Fordham ‘21 AGC & Lehman College ‘22 AGC along with Certificates from the University of Dayton in Youth Ministry and Catechesis). Currently teaching Spanish for the NYC Department of Education while serving in Higher Education and Former Cast Member of The Walt Disney Company. Additionally, I served as a Level 8 Coordinator for Faith Formation and the Youth Minister at a Parish in the Diocese of Rockville Centre for the last 5 years. While my careers vary across different sectors, they all are connected with the same goal, student development, empowerment, and building relationships to create positive change from the bottom up. I believe that effective leaders are on the ground working with their team to serve as role models rather than telling their direct reports what to do. I aspire to develop students academically, emotionally, socially, and preparing those for a better future while using a cross-curricula education and a relational approach to teaching so that students are given real life experiences and applications. As an educator, I lead with empathetic, culturally responsive, and restorative approaches that allow me to build relationships with my students that last more than just the academic year. It is imperative for me that my students feel safe, comfortable, and seen in my classroom so that they are willing to ask the important questions and truly learn. My role, regardless of ministry, is to walk alongside my students on their journey and provide them tools to ensure their long term success. At the end of the day, I want to make sure my students leave as better human beings than when they may met me. While this can be a challenge at times, I am ready to rise to the occasion.
