ABOUT NICHOLAS WOODS

Newly qualified Biomedical Science student currently holding an honours degree in Biomedical Science, with 4 years of retail history, eager to gain further experience in the Biotechnology industry. Wide knowledge of various biological disciplines including molecular biology, haematology, physiology, pathology, microbiology and immunology attained from Glasgow Caledonian University, as well as matured practical skills within a professional laboratory setting with Thermo Fisher Scientific.As a Biomedical Science student at GCU, I am constantly challenged to develop my practical, research and presentational skills to a level worthy of the professional world. Along with this, my knowledge of various clinical disciplines (e.g. microbiology, haematology, biochemistry and physiology) have been widened and reinforced immeasurably during my time at the university.Having joined Thermo Fisher Scientific in early January, my role allows me to play an active part in the professional field of life sciences on a part-time basis while also continuing my education at university. The responsibilities of the position are varied and require me to perform administrative tasks, engage with colleagues and customers from the EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) region, and also practical work in the laboratories. This practical work encompasses the maintenance of equipment, preparation of cell cultures, and assembling of customer products.As a former sales assistant at Morrisons, my initial role was confined to working as a checkout operator and acting as a representative of the shop staff and the company at large. Over the years of my employment, however, this position matured into a significantly more active and versatile role that extended into many different departments within the store.
