   In my current role in the Advanced Analytics department of Sun Life Financial, I am able to work in various IT & Analytics disciplines and wear many hats along the project life-cycle. My area of expertise is in application architecture and development. Currently, the prototypes that we create have project life-cycles that run twice as quickly as our standard IT projects. Because of this need for expedient solutions, many roles and responsibilities are centralized into only a handful of individuals. For prototypes my roles are:Application Architecture & Strategy-Work as the technical lead and collaborate with the business leads to ensure that the solution that we develop is not only delivered on time, but to ensure that the product is the best possible solution for our end-users-Consult with project sponsors to ensure that our expertise in data analytics and visualization is being fully utilized and acceptedBusiness Analysis-Gather and document functional requirements from the businessData Discovery & Analysis-Explore internal systems and external vendors to ensure that data is available - and easily translatable - for our solution to be successful-Conduct examinations on massive datasets to validate business assumptions for the prototype. Typically this is an iterative process with the business, usually conducted through interactive workshops.Database Architecture-With knowledge of functional and data requirements, I will create relational database structures to store all internal and externals data, and any inputs or outputs required of the solutionData Solutions Development-Develop scripts to upload and manipulate data on a daily schedule-Create procedures to allow users to interact with the data through the user front-endApplication Development-Develop and program the user front-end interface for the prototype solutions-Work with business process experts to shape the solution\'s user experience to fit into current business processes
