About Nicholas Stavros
I lead Community Medical Services (CMS) to make compassionate, evidence-based addiction care easier to reach. After losing friends and family to the opioid crisis, I committed my career to expanding access and reducing stigma around substance use disorder (SUD).Since joining CMS in 2012 (CEO since 2013), we’ve grown from 6 clinics in 2 states to 85 clinics across 13 states through de novo openings and acquisitions—always anchored in our vision to eliminate the consequences of SUD in our communities. My work sits at the intersection of operations, payer and government relations, quality/compliance, and strategic growth so we can meet patients where they are with effective care (MOUD/MAT and integrated services).I’m a national and international speaker on addiction and health care policy, regularly engaging clinicians, payers, and policymakers on how to scale access, improve outcomes, and destigmatize SUD treatment. Before CMS, I served in the U.S. Army as an Intelligence (HUMINT) Analyst and Arabic linguist; later commissioned as an Airborne Ranger–qualified Infantry Officer and led a 40-person infantry platoon in combat operations in Iraq. I’m a graduate of the Defense Language Institute (Arabic), Ranger School, and Airborne School; I also competed in the 2011 Best Ranger Competition. After an honorable discharge, I earned my MBA from UCLA Anderson and am an alumnus of the Valley Leadership Institute (Class 37).I currently serve on:• American Association for the Treatment of Opioid Dependence (AATOD) – Board• Arizona State University – Medical Advisory Board• Office of the Arizona Governor – Parents Commission on Drug Education & Prevention• Psychiatry & Behavioral Health Learning Network – NCAD Advisory Board• National Association for Behavioral Healthcare (NABH) – Chair, Medications Subcommittee• Arizona Opioid Treatment Coalition – ChairAlways open to connecting on expanding MOUD/MAT access, payer partnerships, clinical quality, stigma reduction, and workforce development.
