Oversee all day-to-day operations of state-wide legal services provider, serving clients throughout Iowa. Supervise staff of more than 100 managers, attorneys, legal assistants and administrative personnel housed in central office and ten regional offices. Prepare and manage annual budget of approximately $14 million. Implement fundraising activities, including grant applications, state and federal funding and dozens of other public and private revenue sources, and ensure program’s compliance with all grant conditions. Manage public education initiatives, direct all external communications and edit The Equal Justice Journal. Act as primary liaison with governor’s office, judiciary, legislature, local and county governments and state bar. Coordinate activities of organizational board of directors, board of Iowa Legal Aid Foundation and ten regional advisory councils and serve as member of foundation board. Research, coordinate and develop programmatic, administrative and managerial policies, practices and procedures of the program. Ensure program’s compliance with legal, ethical, professional, and regulatory requirements, including those imposed by administrative, judicial and other regulatory bodies. Oversee recruitment, supervision, evaluation, promotion, professional development and discipline of all Iowa Legal Aid attorneys and staff. Manage relationship between Iowa Legal Aid and its employee union, and engage in periodic negation with union representatives. Coordinate and supervise Iowa Legal Aid’s private attorney involvement activities. Provide leadership and coordination of program contacts with Iowa legislature and Attorney General in connection with annual state appropriation. Serve as the trustee on Iowa Legal Aid’s retirement plans, and act as authorized representative on all bank and investment accounts, leases and contracts. Manage, design and implement long-term strategic plan.
