About Nicholas Shade

I\'m a PhD candidate in Electrical Engineering at Dartmouth\'s Thayer School of Engineering, where I work under Dr. Eric Fossum (inventor of the CMOS image sensor). My research focuses on advanced camera technologies including CMOS-QIS, photon-counting sensors, and low-light imaging, with applications in space, astronomy, and UV sensing. Additionally, I\'m also a PhD Innovation Fellow, a selective program that integrates engineering research with business and entrepreneurship training through the Tuck School of Business. This experience has strengthened my ability to translate technical innovation into real-world impact and collaborate across disciplines. I recently completed an internship with Apple, contributing to the evaluation and automated testing of advanced pixel technologies for next-generation camera systems. Prior to that, I interned at NASA-JPL, where I developed sensor validation platforms and characterized photon-counting cameras for space applications. With a strong foundation in sensor design, characterization, and cross-functional collaboration, I\'m passionate about pushing the boundaries of imaging technology and bringing innovative solutions to both consumer electronics and scientific instrumentation.
