About Nicholas McLain
With almost 20 years of professional design and management experience in structural engineering I am pleased to announce that I accepted the Director of Structural & Civil Engineering for the US Region at Exyte! Our expertise is the design and construction of ATF, BLS, and DTC facilities. I’m very excited for this opportunity to put all of my past experience to good use and add value to a company that is Bringing the Future of Technology to Life!In my career I have managed a structural engineering team on a Mega-ATF project, managed an office in Scottsdale Arizona as well as shared company leadership for 4 national offices, client contact, development of structural framing concepts and systems, establishment of project fees/budgets/scheduling, and overall project coordination. My specialty is the design, management, and coordination of Advanced Technology Mega-projects with experience in the analysis and design of complex structural framing systems utilizing finite element analysis and building information modeling. The majority of my projects involve the design of buildings comprised of steel, concrete, masonry, wood and cold-formed steel that have encompassed LEED design, vibration analysis, blast analysis, forensic investigation, and considerable client/user coordination and communications. How I Got Here:Without knowing it at a young age, I had a knack for putting things together. I grew up creating masterpiece wood homes with my Lincoln Logs, sky scrapers with my Constructs, and international space stations with my Lego’s. Even though all of this was occurring in my small home town in Missouri, I knew not even the sky was my limit! An aptitude test in high school lead me to attaining a degree in Architectural Engineering from Kansas State University. With my desire to expand my horizons, I looked for employment away from home and away from cold weather, I chose the wonderful dry heat of Phoenix, Arizona. Becoming a part of the Phoenix community was one of my best choices in life to this point. I have been able to create a family of my own, build amazing relationships, and enjoy all the advantages of living in a lager city. Today, as I enjoy engineering unique projects that require thinking outside the box to create structure, my favorite engineering time is spent with my children setting up building blocks for their demolition!
