About Nicholas Marinak
I love my job! As a dedicated rehabilitation aide at UPMC Shadyside, I bring over hours of hands-on clinical experience working alongside licensed physical therapists in diverse settings. My journey into the field of physical therapy began with personal experiences—helping my mother recover from two knee replacements, which deepened my understanding of the critical role of personalized care in recovery. I am passionate about patient-centered care, and my experiences have equipped me with a strong foundation in therapeutic techniques, patient advocacy, and problem-solving in complex healthcare scenarios. I once navigated a challenging insurance issue for a patient, ensuring her continuity of care while fostering trust and demonstrating my commitment to going above and beyond for patient outcomes. My academic and extracurricular involvement has further shaped my holistic approach to healthcare. As a college student and member within my fraternity, I developed teamwork, communication, and time management skills. These qualities complement my professional experience, helping me connect with patients and collaborate effectively within multiple teams. Currently, I’m preparing for the next step in my journey: becoming a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT). My goal is to combine clinical expertise with compassion to empower patients, break down barriers to healthcare access, and contribute meaningfully to the communities I serve. Outside of work, I’m dedicated to service activities, including volunteering at community events and mentoring students exploring careers in healthcare. Let’s connect to discuss how I can contribute to meaningful patient outcomes and continue growing within the field of physical therapy.
Experience
Rehabilitation Aide
May 2024 — Present · Pittsburgh, PA, US
As a Rehab Aide at UPMC Shadyside, I support physical and occupational therapists in delivering high-quality patient care in an inpatient rehabilitation setting. My responsibilities include preparing treatment areas, assisting patients with mobility and exercises under supervision, cleaning and organizing equipment, and ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for patients. I also help transport patients to and from therapy sessions and communicate regularly with clinical staff to coordinate care. Through this role, I have gained valuable hands-on experience in patient interaction, clinical protocols, and the day-to-day operations of a hospital rehab unit, further solidifying my interest in pursuing a career in physical therapy.
