About Nicholas Lodal

I’m a seasoned public safety professional with 17 years of experience in law enforcement and over two decades in emergency services. Currently, I serve as a Police Captain for the Georgetown Police Department, where I’m part of the executive command staff leading a broad portfolio of operational and strategic functions. In my current role, I manage the department’s annual budget, oversee personnel and hiring processes, and direct key organizational components, including Training, Records, Community Services, School Resource Officers, and Victim Services. I also lead agency-wide functions such as fleet and facilities management, technology implementation, and public transparency and records compliance.Born and raised in Kingsport, Tennessee, I began my public safety journey in 2003 as a part-time EMT while attending Eastern Kentucky University. I transitioned to full-time EMS in 2007 before entering policing, bringing with me a service-first mindset and calm decision-making style that continues to inform my leadership today. I maintain my National Registry Paramedic certification and have served on tactical and medical response teams throughout my career. My law enforcement service began in a six-man department in Irvine, Kentucky, where I often worked solo. That experience taught me the value of resourcefulness, accountability, and deep community connection—qualities I’ve carried with me into leadership roles across nearly every facet of modern policing. These include patrol operations, criminal investigations, traffic safety, collision reconstruction, evidence and records management, training development, budget and resource planning, and department-wide modernization initiatives.I’m a proud graduate of Eastern Kentucky University, holding an Associate of Science in Paramedicine (with High Distinction) and a Bachelor of Science in Police Studies (Magna Cum Laude). I am also a graduate of the FBI National Academy, Session 292.I’m guided by the core values of Guardianship, Professionalism, and Dedication—principles at the heart of the Georgetown Police Department’s mission and ones I strive to reflect in both leadership and service.Off duty, I’m a proud adoptive father of six and a strong believer in lifelong learning. I’m also a bit of a tech geek, fueled by coffee, surrounded by cats, and always up for travel and exploration. At the core of everything I do—professionally and personally—is a commitment to building a life rooted in integrity, growth, and purpose.
