ABOUT NICHOLAS DUNSTER

Enthusiastic and self-motivated design engineer with 20+ years of experience in the automotive design sector specialising in Senior Lead Studio Engineer and Lead Package Engineer roles. I have most recently drawn on this experience to play a key part in the design development of the Lotus Evija and Emira projects from first concept to production release. I am passionate about delivering best in class products while always looking to balance the design aesthetic with the technical attribute requirements. Key Skills - Undertake Lead Studio Engineering and Package roles depending on project demand- Recruitment and management of studio engineering team- Key interaction link / mediator between the design studio and engineering teams- Record and manage feasibility actions to closure and report status to senior management and in project meetings- Work closely with design and digital modelling teams conducting engineering studies to support design development- Creation of criteria in the form of CAD models covering part, package, legislative and ergonomic requirements- Work with aero team to develop exterior design themes to meet performance targets and data creation for CFD evaluation and design of 1:1 scale aero test models- Data preparation and supply to physical modelling team, including setup and point data for scale or 1:1 models and CAD data for RP build and milling- Catia V5 - 15+ Years experience using Surface Design, Solid Design, 2D drafting, Sheet Metal Design, Kinematics and Digitised Shape Editor tools- CAVA - 4+ years experience (CATIA V5 Automotive Extension) Creation of vehicle layouts and legislation checks including wiper setup and exterior mirrors- Vehicle dimensional benchmarking using scan / measurement data and A2mac database- Experience of low, medium and high volume vehicles and there associated requirements- Managed and tracked CAD data releases to internal project teams and external clients- Created studio engineering process documents, feasibility status checklists and surface change request process- Knowledge of and experience working with all design studio disciplines- Showcar design and build support including approval of final data before manufacture- Basic Alias and Siemens NX experience, able to navigate / review data, some basic modelling- PLM experience - Teamcenter and VisMockup user for 5 years. Smarteam 15 years - Microsoft Office – Teams, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel.
