About Souryadeep Basak
I am a climate scientist and PhD Scholar at the TERI School of Advanced Studies, India working on a standardised energy efficient vertical farm design for India. Prior to this, I completed my Bachelor\'s in electrical engineering from Jadavpur University. After a brief stint at PwC India as a data associate, I pursued my Master\'s in renewable energy engineering and management from TERI, under the scholarship of the Global Sustainable Electricity Partnership. My final project (solar hydroponic fodder unit) won the Bronze Award and the People\'s Choice Award at the Efficiency for Access Design Challenge 2020. Consequently, I was invited to be the youngest panelist and the only Indian representative at the SDG 7 Pavilion at United Nations CoP 26. I am currently working on several sustainability projects across the nation as a full spectrum consultant.

I am working to standardise an energy efficient vertical farm design for India by upcycling and retrofitting end-of-life shipping containers. This project has great ramifications of decoupling agriculture from the climate, due to the soilless method of hydroponics, which may allow us to grow food best in deserts, where there is an abundance of the solar resource.\\\\nGreen building design principles, passive solar architecture, renewable energy system modelling, and climate simulations are but nodes in the grand scheme of my PhD research.\\\\n \\\\n\\\\n \\\\n \\\\n\\\\n \\\\n
