The James Hutton Institute has been awarded a £6.2 million grant to pioneer a green hydrogen-powered farming community demonstrator facility, based at the institute’s research farm at Glensaugh in Aberdeenshire – the home of the Climate-Positive Farming Initiative.By producing green hydrogen from renewable energy generated on site (wind and solar), HydroGlen will have the capacity to support the entire energy needs of both the farm and the seven associated households. The successful development of this high profile project will result in an essential research and demonstration facility that will test and showcase innovative and practical energy solutions that canhelp the region, Scotland and beyond to meet net zero targets. It will provide a scalable and replicable concept for farming and other rural communities to demonstrate how to become self-reliant, net-zero carbon energy producers and exporters.My role is to implement with the aid of the project team, the HydroGlen project, its aims and taking the lead on specific project deliverables such as emissions savings and potential for ‘green jobs’ as well as securing bidding for funding.I have a lead role in calculating projected project emissions savings through the replacement of fossil fuels with green hydrogen for HydroGlen and the agricultural sector as a whole. I work closely with stakeholders and build on the sectoral need for green hydrogen and EV and hydrogen vehicles. I work closely with communities, academic institutes and others to encourage knowledge sharing to aid the HydroGlen project and the green hydrogen sector. I take the lead role in liaising with new and existing partners in an outreach programme support of the HydroGlen Project Board and Hutton Comms team.I can effectively deliver presentations, conferences, reports, articles and podcasts on the progress of the HydroGlen project, its emissions, stakeholder engagement, and how to scale up in the agriculture sector.
