ABOUT NIAMH CHRISTINA GLEESON

Dr. Niamh Christina Gleeson is a specialist lawyer in competition/antitrust law and data privacy/data protection law. She has over 20 years of experience working in competition/antitrust law specialising in the communications, cloud computing and IT sectors. She is qualified as a certified information privacy professional (CIPP/E) specialising in GDPR and has worked on data protection & privacy in cloud computing and IT for nearly 10 years.She has a research doctorate in EU competition law and she teaches and researches cloud computing law and competition law in the Information Communications and Technology (ICT) sector. Her teaching and research deals with the overlap of competition law and regulation in the IT and cloud sector, including the EU Digital Markets Act (DMA), the EU Digital Services Act (DSA), data portability, data transfer, data privacy and data protection laws.She currently is Managing Partner of ICT Legal Consulting France, and has her practice office in Paris, practising in the following areas of law: EU and UK Data Privacy and Protection law and Regulation (GDPR), Cloud Computing Law, IoT and antitrust and regulatory compliance.She is a practising lawyer in multiple jurisdictions. She is a qualified solicitor in the Republic of Ireland, a qualified solicitor in England and Wales and she is admitted to the Paris bar in France. She works mainly for digital media and technology companies, such as IT, cloud computing, and communications companies, including multinational corporations (Google).In the past, she has worked in private practice for law firms in London and Brussels. She has worked for Slaughter and May (London) and for Bird & Bird (Brussels).She has spent over 10 years of her career as an in-house competition and regulatory lawyer working for British Telecom plc (Senior Competition Lawyer, London) and Apple EMEA (Senior Competition Law Counsel, EMEA). She holds an LLM from the College of Europe in Bruges, and a doctorate (Phd) in EU competition law from Kings College London. She publishes and teaches on cloud law and is co-author of the book, Cloud Computing Law, edited by Christopher Millard, 2nd edition (OUP, Oxford, 2021).She teaches ICT Competition Law Module for the LLM in Communications law for Queen Mary University of London (Jan - May 2023).She is a member of the European Commission Expert Group on B2B data sharing and standard contractual clauses in Cloud Computing (DG Connect & DG Justice 20••••23).
