About Nia L.

Hello! I am Nia Lartey!Years ago, I began what is now a decade-long love affair with news and politics. Today, I believe deeply in giving information access to all communities, keeping people informed, and telling their stories. In my first year as an Emma Bowen Foundation Fellow at C-SPAN in the Field Operations department, I gained essential cable-running, video production, lighting, and audio skills by covering countless Hill hearings and other political events. My dedication and willingness to learn did not go unnoticed, and my expanding assignments reflected that. At the end of the summer, I had assisted in producing President Trump’s “Salute to America” on the Lincoln Memorial, the Mueller and Reparations Hearings, and Speaker Pelosi and Congressman Nadler’s last press conferences before their August recess. My time at The Hatchet, GW’s independent student newspaper, as both a staff writer and research assistant has been professionally and personally rewarding. While working the student life beat, I covered issues ranging from the disconnect felt by black students on campus to the implementation of a new student orientation format, as well as breaking news, such as last year’s midterm election results. These stories required me to interview a wide range of individuals—from five students to over 30 for a story— and to weave together diverse views into cohesive articles under deadline. Simultaneously, my time as a research assistant has reinforced how integral being detail-oriented and verifying the facts are. When I\'m not at work, I\'m either volunteering, participating in a community activity, or perhaps striking up a conversation with the person sitting next to me. Thank you for your time!Smiling as always,Nia Lartey
