ABOUT NIA SHIELDS
I\'m a senior chemistry student at the University of Connecticut with an extensive background in organic chemistry, customer service, and leadership. My research is centered around manipulating environmental conditions to produce more favorable and pure organic products. This research is ongoing and has resulted in a publication with more to come. I hope to transition my research into exploring more environmentally sustainable conditions to produce cosmetic and personal care products. Additionally, I have multiple years of chemical stockroom experience, which has provided me with unique insight into commonly used lab equipment and practices. Through this, I have also expanded my knowledge with research outside my discipline and have gained invaluable communication and collaborative skills.Outside of work and academics, I enjoy cycling, reading, and exploring new restaurants around my city :)
