ABOUT NEXA CASTRO

Nexa Castro, was appointed Senior Project Manager for District 8 Highway Design Unit in October 2020, making her the first Hispanic female obtaining this position in the district. Graduated in 1996 with a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering Science and a minor in Civil Engineering. Started in the district a little over 22 years ago as an Engineer Technician, the lowest pay range in engineering. Earned her first promotion to a project manager five years later. Her portfolio as a project manager encompasses simple trail projects, roadway resurfacing, bridge rehabilitation and replacements, highway improvements and the first Restricted Crossing U-turns (RCUT) innovative design in the state. To this date, she has delivered 150 completed projects, 6 projects in construction phase and 20 projects in design phase. Also, the recipient of Women Transportation Seminar (WTS) 2020 Innovative Transportation Solutions Award, for her outstanding managing of the SR 272 project in Lancaster County; this project is the first Restricted Crossing U-turn (RCUT) design in Pennsylvania. Lastly, January 2022 was appointed as WTS Central Pennsylvania Chapter Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Chair In November 2018, after shadowing the former Secretary of Transportation, Leslie Richards, at the Associated Pennsylvania Constructors (APC) Fall Conference, the idea of TRUSS was born. The group Vision is “Advancing women through workforce development and support”. Today they have a diverse and inclusive support group that is open to the whole district. The group has earned the 2020 WTS Rosa Parks Diversity and Leadership Award. Also, the group earned the 2020 TQI Award Diversity & Inclusion from the APC.
