Founding and directing Native Breed Solutions (NBS), a UK-based Community Interest Company dedicated to the conservation and practical use of native livestock breeds in modern agriculture. Designing and leading research initiatives that evaluate nutritional value, health outcomes, and environmental impacts of native breeds, while developing collaborative projects with farmers, breed societies, and academic partners. ABOUT ERIC NEWTON
Animal scientist and educator working across agriculture, food systems, and life sciences. I focus on practical problem-solving in microbial risk assessment, contamination tracing, livestock health, and sustainable production. My work spans animal biology, environmental microbiology, and food safety, with a strong grounding in biochemistry and real-world agricultural practice.I teach university-level chemistry and biology, build laboratory programmes, and support organisations through independent consultancy. Much of my work sits at the intersection of animal health, food-system resilience, sustainability, and public nutrition. I’m particularly interested in how evidence-based approaches can improve livestock management, product quality, and on-farm decision-making.I also direct Native Breed Solutions CIC, working to keep the UK’s native livestock breeds relevant and valued through research-led initiatives, farmer collaboration, and practical field projects.
