I left my first job, having gained no useful experience whatsoever in five years, to do a Masters degree in IT, then I started my IT career in the NHS. I did it because that first company literally held me backI started out in IT, as most people do in, supporting users with their problems with computers, printers etc, and gained a tremendous foundation knowledge of IT. I gradually started becoming involved in third line support and project work and have gradually evolved into the network specialist of today.Along the way I have:Led an NHS Trust to Year complianceInstalled WAN links, built firewalls and created VPNs for the connection of a new Outpatients department to the main hospital siteEnabled a remote site, connected via a slow WAN link, to view XRay images by means of installation of a WAN acceleration deviceMigrated approximately 350 servers from a legacy network to a spine and leaf ACI networkEnabled Network Access Control with Cisco ISE at a site with multiple thousands of devicesMigrated approximately devices from the native VLAN to separate VLANs to improve securityInstalled new Checkpoint firewalls at more than 50 sites across EuropeMy experience has spanned big name clients, including Selfridges, Experian, Computacenter and DP WorldI have gained a vast array of knowledge and experience over the years but there is still more to be done. I continue to expand my repertoire by studying both traditional networking and the more modern stuff.
