ABOUT NETTRA PAN
Research Interests: Identity (Development & Change) & implications for Meaningful Work, Innovation & New Venture Strategy. My research investigates how founders can successfully prototype, fund and resource new organizations that reflect their own personal, community-driven, social, and/or environmental goals. Specifically, I investigate how founder and investor cognition affects the opportunities they pursue, how they exploit them, their performance (including alternative metrics of performance) and the resulting new venture identity. To further my goal, I collect data from and with practitioners working in entrepreneurship, innovation and creativity, from fields including international development, social work, venture capital, digital art, design and technology. I usually fully immerse myself in my empirical settings in order to develop theoretical insights, but also to continually identify research ideas with potentially important practical implications,My teaching favors an interactive and experiential approach and consistently pairs evidence-based startup insights with practical, hands-on exercises and voices from the field. I teach Introduction to Entrepreneurship (MSc, PhD),and Entrepreneurship & Purpose-driven Innovation (MSc) at Bayes Business School. To understand what new developments will shape business and society, I often engage with practitioners on new topics, including social media, blockchain and web3. I consider myself a practitioner-scholar and work with various organizations towards the goal of creating, sharing and preserving critical knowledge, especially with and about marginalized groups.
