ABOUT NELSON VALDIVIESO

Nelson Valdivieso is a person with curiosity that can analyze data to solve problems using the right tools and then tell a story from the results using visualizations or reports.Nelson holds a Master of Business Administration with a certification and concentration in Business Analytics from Radford University, as well as a degree in Telecommunications Engineering obtained in Guayaquil, Ecuador. Nelson also completed a Data Science Professional Certificate by IBM, through which he gained more skills for a career in data science with demonstrated ability to solve real-world problems.Nelson worked as a Data Analyst for Radford University Athletics, manipulating and analyzing time-series data from the Radford Baseball team, performing business forecasting analysis in SAS, using analytical and data mining techniques and creating weekly reports and visualizations to improve their performance.Nelson completed a Data Analyst internship in the Center for Innovation & Analytics of Radford University, developing analytical models to determine the factors that predict retention of new freshmen and identify at-risk students.Nelson worked at Samsung Electronics for four years, one of his tasks was to extract the data of Samsung service centers from the SAP database using SQL and manipulate and analyze the data to improve service center key performance indicators, especially the repair time. Nelson also performed forecasting analysis to improve spare parts acquisitions for service centers and created weekly reports and visualizations with Excel and Power BI to present to managers. This position taught him how to work in a strict deadline-driven environment while still achieving excellent results.Nelson believes that Business Analytics has changed the rules of the business game: it’s the best way to know your customers’ behaviors. Data is power, knowledge, and bigger profits, and that is what big companies discovered years ago. A company that doesn’t care about analytics just did not understand the market.Nelson is trained in Business Analytics software such as SAS Studio, SAS Enterprise Guide, SAS Enterprise Miner, SAS Forecasting using SAS Forecast Server 14.2, SAS 9.4, Python, SQL, and SPSS. He is also gaining proficiency in Python and R. Nelson was awarded the Radford University Graduate Tuition Scholarship, as well as a full-ride Scholarship to study his engineering degree at UEES University in Ecuador and a Full Scholarship from the Emerging Leaders in the Americas to study a semester abroad at the University of Lethbridge in Canada.
