ABOUT NELSON PEDRO

I have spent more than three decades working at the intersection of emergency medical services, hospital operations, and public safety leadership. My career has focused on improving how healthcare systems and EMS organizations coordinate to deliver medical care and move patients safely and efficiently across complex healthcare networks. Today I serve in leadership roles within a large healthcare system overseeing critical care transport operations, medical communications, community paramedicine programs, and capacity management. My work involves coordinating hospital-based transport teams, managing EMS vendor relationships, supporting communications between municipal EMS agencies and hospitals, and improving patient movement across the healthcare system. In addition to my healthcare operations role, I serve as a fire officer and paramedic, where I continue to experience emergency response operations from the field perspective. Throughout my career I’ve been particularly interested in the operational systems that sit between hospitals and EMS, including: • interfacility transport systems • transfer center operations • hospital–EMS coordination • EMS communications and dispatch operations • community paramedicine programs • operational leadership in emergency services More recently, I’ve been exploring how artificial intelligence can support EMS leadership and operational decision-making, particularly in areas such as documentation, training development, policy creation, and quality improvement. I enjoy sharing insights on healthcare operations, EMS leadership, and emerging opportunities to improve how our systems work together.
