Providing specialist surveying services, principally involving near surface geophysical site investigation. In particular I use what I believe to be the most advanced Electrical Resisitivity Tomography and Induced Polarisation equipment in the world, the FlashRes system from ZZ Geo. ABOUT NEILL WOOD
Associate of the Royal School of MinesMember of the Institute of Munition Clearance and Search EngineersFellow of the Higher Education AcademyTook over as Programme Director for the master\'s course in Surveying, Land and Environmental Management in August 2012.Now also running the applied geophysics education at Camborne School of Mines and director of geophysical site investigation company, GeoDefinition Limited. Currently developing the application of near surface geophysics to a variety of practical challenges. In particular, exploring the capabilities of our new 61 channel electrical resistivity and induced polarization equipment and the equally impressive CMD-Explorer EM profiler.Extensive background in project management and contracts consultancy, mostly marine and offshore projects. Also >12 years service in the Territorial Army: qualified in explosive ordnance disposal. I hold the VRSM (Volunteer Reserves Service Medal).Devised and managed a University of Exeter research project to investigate potential use of bio-diesel in fishing vessels.Developed the hydrographic survey capability required to support marine renewable energy research at the University of Exeter, from scratch, including multibeam sonar, sidescan sonar and ROV operations.Specialties: Project Management. Near Surface Geophysical Surveying and Remote Sensing Hydrographic Surveying. Challenging fieldwork! With much of Cornwall affected by historic shallow mining, GeoDefinition Limited was created to meet demand for local geophysical site investigation work. Our expertise has become increasingly sought after in connection with projects far beyond Cornwall, with a focus on applying geophysics to potential geotechnical hazards. The company has its own equipment, which combined with extensive experience and a background in contracting, translates into a first class service. The equipment includes an in-house developed sled system for efficiently surveying extensive areas using any of our various electro-magnetic profilers and our quad bike plus an accurate navigation system that defines virtual grids. Also available is a FlashRes ERT/IP system for the best density of electrical resistivity tomography data.
