ABOUT NEIL SHAND
Started a 4 year apprenticeship at 16 years old, straight out of high school. Apprenticeship started with a company called Alstom Rotating Machines which after a year in was involved in a takeover by a private equity company linked to Barclays Bank, the name of this company was Converteam and this partnership lasted 5 years before another buyout by General Electric. Theoretically I have stayed with the same company now for 12 years and completed a 4 year apprenticeship, resulting in a HNC in electrical and electronic engineering. After many years in test engineering I then stepped into a role as a team leader within test to widen my knowledge.Became a test area team leader - covering a shift pattern looking after day shift and nightshift employees 2016 - became an area manager for Assembly, Test, Paint and dispatch of rotating machines for the Royal Navy, Oil and Gas, power generation companies worldwide 2016 - became the site HV authorised person, responsible for 50 breakers around the factory in 4 sub stations and planning maintenance outages whilst keeping the factory running at the same time
