ABOUT NEIL MCAVOY

In short, I have been a successful primary school teacher for just over twenty years, spending nineteen of these years in school leadership (including sixteen years as a Deputy or Assistant Headteacher), as well as time abroad leading humanitarian aid projects in Malawi, South Africa and Kenya. During this time, I have worked with and supported many school leaders and teachers, as well as collaborating with organisations including the Department for Education, National Literacy Trust, Youth Sport Trust, School Games Programme, Association for Physical Education, Oak National Academy, Geographical Association, John Muir Trust, Fairtrade Schools and the British Council.Roles and responsibilities have included: Deputy Headteacher (two schools, thirteen years in total); Assistant Headteacher (one school, three years); Classroom Teacher; Curriculum Leader; Assessment Leader; Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCo); English Leader; YST Lead School for Health & Wellbeing Leader; Physical Education, School Sport and Physical Activity (PESSPA) Programme Director (holding the Platinum Level of the School Games Mark and Gold Level of the Youth Sport Trust Quality Mark); International Schools Leader (holding the highest level of the International Schools Award).Additional voluntary roles have included: School Governor; Teaching and Learning advisor (as part of a National Support School); Curriculum development advisor (as part of a National Support School); Assessment advisor (as part of a National Support School); English advisor (as part of a National Support School); Local Authority Leading Practitioner for English; Local Authority Assessment Moderator; Expert Curriculum Panel for the Department for Education; Expert Physical Education Panel for Oak National Academy; National Lead Teacher for the Assessment of English with the Qualifications and Curriculum Development Agency; Headteacher Ambassador for the Youth Sport Trust; Founding member of the Well Schools Movement.
