ABOUT NEIL BALCHIN
Experienced researcher with a PhD in Economics (specialising in international trade) from the University of Cape Town and nearly 15 years of economic research experience in diverse academic, consultancy and think tank roles, spanning research and advisory work and programme management. This includes experience working for two of the world’s premier economic development think tanks – the Centre for International Development at Harvard University and the Overseas Development Institute in London. I have undertaken a variety of different projects and assignments encompassing sectoral research, applied microeconomic and macroeconomic analysis, and extensive work on different aspects of international trade, economic transformation and economic development. This includes diverse experience on projects covering a range of trade and economic development issues in Africa, Asia, Europe and South America. I am currently an Economic Adviser working on trade policy issues at the Commonwealth Secretariat.
