ABOUT NEDIM CAN COLAK
I completed my MSc in International Relations at the London School of Economics (LSE) this year, with a focus on foreign policy and European security. Over the past four years, I have combined this academic background with hands-on professional experience, turning geopolitical analysis into practical market value.I work at the intersection of energy markets, political risk, and international investment, with a strong focus on Europe and the Middle East. My background blends policy analysis and market-oriented research, enabling me to link geopolitical developments with investment and business outcomes. I have contributed to projects involving international institutions and private-sector energy and investment stakeholders. My experience includes financial and political analysis for international energy investment projects, covering market and country-level assessments, particularly in the Middle East, Eastern Europe, and post-Soviet states.I have also led and supported funded research projects examining the relationship between foreign policy, geopolitical risk, and foreign direct investment (FDI). Using a mixed-method approach, I conducted sector-level FDI analysis, political risk assessments, and governance mapping, translating complex political and economic dynamics into clear, actionable insights. Beyond research, I have experience in investor relations and project development, supporting market materials, analytical presentations, and data-driven outputs for fundraising and internal decision-making. I have conducted interviews with diplomats, economists, and senior executives in the mining and oil sectors, and converted these insights into policy briefs and analytical reports.I am particularly interested in roles at the intersection of energy security, international political economy, political risk, intelligence, market analysis, and investment strategy, where strong analysis supports informed decision-making in complex geopolitical environments. In this context, I should also highlight my strong and genuine interest in startups. I believe that developing my broad range of interests within Seed, Pre-Seed, or Series A stage companies (particularly in a global startup hub like London) would be an incredibly valuable experience. The additional responsibilities that naturally come with early-stage startups, along with their learning-by-doing culture where team members are deeply involved in building organizational processes from the ground up, align closely with my long-term career goals and would be highly educational for me.
