ABOUT NIGEL DEANS

I am a second-year M.Sc. student at UBC\'s Institute for Resources, Environment and Sustainability (IRES), in the Behavioral Sustainability Lab, under the supervision of Dr. Jiaying Zhao, Canada Research Chair in Behavioural Sustainability. My research interests, broadly, are in improving public and policymaker understanding and application of environmental science.I am also a guest lecturer with UBC Sustainability’s Climate Teaching Connector, a teaching fellow in research methods and data analysis in UBC\'s Department of Psychology, and an associate and instructional skills facilitator with the Centre for the Integration of Research, Teaching, and Learning, where I am currently enrolled in the Certificate Program in Advanced Teaching and Learning. Before joining IRES, I was the research coordinator for Royal Roads University’s Resilience by Design Research Lab, where I worked with post-secondary institutions and professional organizations across the province of British Columbia to design and deliver climate change adaptation courses for professionals. I hold a BSc in psychology with a science specialization in biology from the University of Victoria, where I also completed three co-operative work terms in three countries and a year-long academic exchange at the University of Utrecht’s Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences.I am currently living, working, and learning in Victoria, BC, on the unceded, traditional, ancestral territories of the Lək̓ʷəŋən (Lekwungen) People, known today as the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations and the WSÁNEĆ (Saanich) People. UBC\'s Vancouver Campus is located on the unceded, traditional, ancestral territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and səl̓ílwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
