Developed a novel method that provides rigorous bounds for the thermal conductivity of sea ice, with brine-ice composite microstructure. o Mentored a graduate student to implement the method for model brine fluid flows.• Project Leader – developed a rigorous mathematical model that describes electromagnetic and thermal transport properties of random polycrystalline materials in terms of statistical properties of large random data sets. o Developed efficient numerical algorithms to investigate the model.o Developed a fully automated software suite to implement the numerical algorithms. o Lead authored a submitted journal article discussing the mathematical and statistical results of the research project.• Increased algorithmic efficiency over previous generations of algorithms.o Replaced a dense numerical representation of transport equations, for both two-component and polycrystalline composite materials, with an equivalent sparse representation – greatly reducing the memory allocation of numerical simulations.

ABOUT N BENJAMIN MURPHY

I am a Ph.D. Graduate of Applied Mathematics and a B.Sc. Graduate of Physics with 7 years of experience in postdoctoral research and 11 years of experience in data analysis, statistics, and software development. I have extensive experience in software engineering, database administration, data science using both the R and Python data science stacks, machine learning, and web development. I also have extensive experience in mathematical/statistical modeling and analysis. I have developed mathematical models that describe the physical properties of complex systems in terms of the statistical properties of large data sets. I have also developed efficient numerical algorithms and fully automated software suites to investigate the models. I am a project leader and a versatile technical writer. I am also an award winning public speaker with excellent multilevel communication skills. I am enjoying my exciting employment in software engineering, data science, speech science, and mathematics/physics research; this is my passion.
