   National Incident Management System (NIMS) was developed by the Department of Homeland Security and is a comprehensive approach to incident management. NIMS represents a core set of doctrine, principles, terminology and organizational processes to enable effective, efficient and collaborative incident management at all levels. NIMS allows responders at all jurisdictional levels and across all disciplines to work together.One of the most important best practices that has been incorporated into NIMS is the Incident Command System (ICS), which is a standard, on-scene, all-hazards incident management system. ICS has been established by NIMS as the standardized incident organizational structure for the management of all incidents. Members of the EMT have received training to build teamwork, establish the fundamentals of emergency management using the Federal Incident Command System. Members have received specialized training established by the US Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to meet federal, state, local, SUNY and University requirements.
