ABOUT NAVID MANUCHEHRABADI
Navid Manuchehrabadi holds a dual B.S. in Biomedical and Electrical Engineering and an M.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Hannover Leibniz University, Germany. He earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from UMBC in 2014, specializing in thermal-fluid sciences, biomedical device modeling, and nanoparticle-mediated cancer therapy.Navid brings over 15 years of experience at the intersection of biomedical engineering, drug delivery, and device development, with deep expertise in combination products, clinical systems, and computational modeling. His multidisciplinary background spans organ preservation, regenerative medicine, nanoparticle-based therapies, thermal ablation, and integration of drug-device platforms. As a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Minnesota, he led translational research in thermal ablation therapies for cancer, focusing on treatment planning, device optimization, and clinical evaluation. He was the first to demonstrate “nanowarming” for large-volume cryopreserved organ rewarming (Manuchehrabadi et al, Science Translational Medicine, 2017).His doctoral research at UMBC focused on nanoparticle-mediated laser photothermal therapy. He combined experimental and computational modeling to optimize energy delivery and improve prostate cancer treatment outcomes while preserving critical tissue. In industry, Navid has held progressive roles in medical device R&D and drug-device combination product development:At AngioDynamics, he served as Principal R&D Engineer, leading cross-functional development of pulsed electric field (PEF) therapies for oncology. He directed design verification, clinical protocol development, and integrated system design. At Biogen, he contributed to in vitro and in silico model development for intrathecal drug delivery, supporting combination product evaluations and regulatory alignment. At Moderna, Navid is currently a Senior Engineer II focused on inhaled mRNA-based combination products, including nebulizer-based drug delivery systems. His responsibilities include design control documentation, cleaning validation strategy, human factors planning, system integration, and regulatory support for IND and commercial-stage programs.Navid combines strong technical and regulatory knowledge (21 CFR Part 820, ISO 13485, ISO 14971) with hands-on experience in modeling, device testing, V&V, and cross-functional collaboration. His work bridges research and development, aligning cutting-edge science with regulatory and patient-focused product goals.
