I am currently a freelance Software Architect/Engineer, producing bespoke software for clients. I usually discuss an idea with a client, then bring it to full fruition from concept to a full web service generally. I have had several server-side and localised projects as well, as I work across a full stack. I worked as a Principal Software Engineer at Laka, where I dedicated my expertise to spearheading the development of core functionalities for backend microservices and infrastructure. I\'m a huge purveyor of build performance optimization, adherence to DRY principles, and rigorous Golang testing.In my previous role as the VP of Software Engineering at Mystic, I showcased my prowess as a versatile full stack software engineer, specializing in backend architecture, infrastructure, and development.My journey led me to attain an engineering doctorate (EngD) from the University of Bath, where my research predominantly focused on the realm of Virtual Reality (VR). Alongside my academic pursuits, I was employed as a software engineer, research assistant and teaching assistant.I pride myself on being a Computer Scientist first and foremost, and am comfortable in most languages doing frontend or backend. Beyond the realm of work, I find joy in playing baseball for the Bristol Baseball Club. Additionally, I indulge in cycling, with my longest being a 420 mile cycle.My creative side finds expression through 3D printing functional objects, which I integrate with electronics and home automation systems. I hold a strong affinity for self-hosted server home automation, ensuring that my smart devices remain independent of cloud dependencies.Moreover, I indulge in the art of crafting leather items such as wallets and belts, using only the finest quality full grain hides.
