ABOUT NATHANIEL BOTTRELL
Nathaniel is a Senior Advisor in the Whole Systems & Networks Platform, dedicated to addressing national-level challenges in decarbonization. In his role, he works with the innovation directorate to develop projects that employ a technology-agnostic and whole systems approach, with a focus on shaping the future energy system. Within project teams, he often takes the role of Commercial Lead and takes on the responsibility of ensuring project delivery aligns with client requirements and expectations.Nathaniel has over 15 years of experience in electricity transmission, distribution and power electronic applications for both distribution and HVDC. He is interested in exploring the opportunities, benefits, and impacts of integrating low-carbon technologies such as solar PV, wind, electric vehicles, and heat pumps. Nathaniel’s work spans a diverse range of projects, each designed to contribute to the broader goal of achieving sustainable and impactful decarbonisation.Nathaniel has worked on a large variety of projects including power electronic applications, solar PV, wind generation, electric vehicles, vehicle-to-grid, storage technologies and private wire connections. Clients and project partners that Nathaniel has supported included network operators, regulators, airports, local authorities, manufacturers, and technology start-ups.He has both project management and technical expertise for delivery of complex projects at different voltages across distribution networks and microgrids. He has strong power system simulation expertise using industry leading software packages. Over the last five years, Nathaniel has developed an understanding of the role of regulation and energy markets in ensuring new assets are built in the places where they drive the greatest impact in the UK\'s journey to Net Zero. The interaction between markets and system planning will play an ever more important role as the UK seeks to deploy clean power by 2030 and further reach Net Zero by 2050.
