The Entrepreneurship for Mission Innovation (EMI) Program Office integrates technology innovation, transition and transfer efforts for the Laboratory. EMI fosters an innovative mindset for staff through workshops, funding opportunities, collaborative efforts, and technology accelerator programs. EMI also sponsors LANL’s Lab Embedded Entrepreneurial Program (LEEP), an incubator pipeline to identify and assist transformative deep-tech startup companies whose products and services are supportive of LANL’s national security mission and New Mexico’s economic development.

ABOUT NATHAN MOODY
Dr. Nathan Moody joined Los Alamos National Laboratory in 2006 as a staff scientist with a focus on directed energy systems and high energy particle physics. His early work with the Office of Naval Research helped advance the Navy’s directed energy weapons platform as well as LANL’s accelerator infrastructure supporting science-based stewardship of the nuclear stockpile. He pioneered a unique material science capability at LANL that won an R & D100 award and enabled enhanced performance and reliability of accelerator facilities worldwide. He also led LANL’s high power electrodynamic capability for 7 years in its support of LANL’s radiographic capabilities (LANSCE, DARHT, and ASD-Scorpius).As program director Entrepreneurship for Mission Innovation (PPO-EMI), he sponsors a portfolio of cutting-edge technology evaluation and demonstration (TED) projects and aligns LANL’s technical staff with emerging needs in technology transfer and commercialization. EMI also sponsors LANL’s Lab Embedded Entrepreneurial Program (LEEP), an incubator pipeline to identify and assist transformative deep-tech startup companies whose products and services are supportive of LANL’s national security mission and New Mexico’s economic development.Through the LEEP program, deep-tech startups are paired with LANL scientists, engineers, and facilities to close technology gaps in product development. Through LANL’s Feynman Center for Innovation (FCI), the program provides startup founders with the core technologies, foundational business skills, and investor networks to grow the company beyond the two year LEEP tenure. Technology Focus Areas include- AI, Quantum, and Advanced Computing - Biotechnology and Biosystems - Energy Transition - Space Systems Dr. Moody is an APS fellow, technical author with citations, frequent resource in science and engineering review panels (e.g, SBIR/STTR), senior member of the and holds 8 patents for inventions in electrodynamic sources and detectors. He obtained his B.S, M.S, and Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Maryland in 2004 and 2006, respectively.
