About Nathan Dalton
I have strong analytical, communication, and coordination skills, with a high capacity for work output in short timeframes, developed through 20 years with United Nations peace operations in the field and at HQ, New York. In addition, my early legal career in Australia as a criminal defence and refugee lawyer embedded a strong sense of professionalism, attention to detail, responsibility, and client orientation, which I have carried onward throughout my working life. During my UN career, I have worked in close support of UN senior management in Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East and New York in electoral, humanitarian, political affairs, rule of law and security sector reform sectors. In my current position as Political Affairs Officer with the Middle East Division of the Departments of Political & Peacebuilding Affairs and Peace Operations, as well as previous positions as Political Affairs Officer and Judicial Affairs Officer in DPKO HQ, Strategic Planner in Jordan, Political Affairs Officer with UNMIL in Liberia, Special Assistant to the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Security Sector Support and Rule of Law at UNMIT in Timor-Leste, and Special Assistant to the Director of the UNMIK Department of Justice and Legal Officer in Kosovo, I have been involved in coordination, situational analysis, and the preparation of UN planning and briefing documents and reports, often at short notice and in crisis contexts. Through strong communication and client orientation skills, I have established good working relations with counterparts within and external to the UN, including government, parliament, legal practitioners, the diplomatic corps, and civil society. Such relationships provide me with better awareness and, in turn, an ability to better carry out my tasks and attain the trust of senior management and peers alike.
