ABOUT NATHAN ADDAI
My specialisms are in award-winning short 2D animations, teaching and mentoring young people in various contexts, and othercreative services that raise awareness on issues affecting underrepresented social groups. My creative work has been recognised and awarded by the BBC, British Film Institute (BFI), Royal Society of Arts (RSA), British Animation Awards and more.I am currently a part-time BA (Hons) Animation Lecturer at Nottingham Trent University, teaching an essay-based module helping young animators think critically about animation history, intentions behind creation and visual media\'s role in society.Alongside this, I am running my start-up Mental Roots; a multimedia movement highlighting various young black and global majority experiences in mental health. I do this through- Creative commissions addressing African/Caribbean experiences, and/or health and wellbeing- Creating and delivering youth workshops and ethnic inclusion training for professionals, which incorporate my own original animations and podcast content to educate and inspire.The first Mental Roots animation was commissioned by Rural Media and broadcasted by the BBC in December 2021.Outside of work, I enjoy community activities largely relating to my local church. I volunteer in the youth ministry team, as well as for The Message Trust as a rap/spoken word mentor for young people.
